Why does Disney want to close After a racism row, Joy Ride is becoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Splash Mountain at Disneyland will stop running on Sunday, January 22. It will then be turned into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The Magic Kingdom attraction, on the other hand, has not said when it will close. When Magic Kingdom opened in 1992, Splash Mountain was set in a southern bayou. People go there to take a boat ride through different scenes with characters named Br’er Bear, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Rabbit that move on their own. It also has a drop of 50 feet into the “Briar Patch.”

The characters in Splash Mountain are connected to a controversial 1946 movie called “Song of the South.” Over the years, the movie has come under fire for its racist stereotypes and the way it showed life on a plantation.”I’ve believed that, even with a disclaimer, ‘Song of the South’ was just not acceptable in today’s environment,” Disney CEO Bob Iger remarked at a shareholders meeting in March 2020.

Back in 2020, Disney said that it was going to change the theme of Splash Mountain. The plan was to turn it into a ride based on “The Princess and the Frog,” which would feature the first Disney princess who is black.

Walt Disney Imagineers will now make the Old South part of Splash Mountain look like New Orleans in the 1920s. The events in the animated film will take place a year prior to the beginning of the plot. After opening her own restaurant, Tiana created a worker-owned cooperative named “Tiana’s Foods.” For the new ride, the co-op, which was built into the mountain, will be turned into a salt dome.

At Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, people will be greeted by music and animals that move, such as an otter, rabbit, beaver, and raccoon. Spectrum News says that the ride will have its own signature drop. It is said that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in 2024 at both Disney World and Disneyland.
