On Saturday, Japan’s Health Ministry said that the number of people with flu has reached the epidemic alert level for the week ending January 29.

The news agency Xinhua said, based on data from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, that the average number of patients in each medical institution across the country is 10.36. This number is higher than the warning level of 10, which is 10. The alert level shows how likely it is that an epidemic will start in the next four weeks.

Over 51,000 cases in one week
The data showed that during a normal seven-day period, more than 51,000 flu cases were reported by more than 5,000 medical institutions in all 47 prefectures of Japan.
The most patients have been reported in Okinawa, which has 41.23, followed by Fukui, which has 25.38, Osaka, which has 24.34, and Fukuoka, which has 21.70.
