Google Analytics charged with interfering with Data Privacy in Europe

The Italian Supervisory Authority prohibits this service. It claims that because Google’s service sends user data to the US where there is insufficient data protection it violates data protection rules. Italian Supervisory Authority

The Italian Supervisory Authority prohibits this service. It claims that because Google’s service sends user data to the US where there is insufficient data protection it violates data protection rules. It has requested Google Analytics be removed from all Italian websites by the Italian Supervisory Authority. For this, a 90-day window has been set up. A French regulator warned Google Analytics earlier in February that it runs the danger of giving US spy agents access to user information from French websites.

Earlier this year, the Austrian Data Protection Authority declared that Google Analytics contravened GDPR. In a significant ruling almost two years ago, the EU’s Court of Justice prohibited businesses from the EU from sending their data to the US via the Privacy Shield framework. Google has made no comments on this. The industry however has stopped offering its Universal Analytics service which gathers a lot of data for web analytics. The EU however, has also voiced its concerns about this service. According to the Italian regulatory body’s ruling An IP address constitutes personal data and cannot be modified. After European businesses implement the limits, local analytics service providers in Europe will have the chance to expand their businesses.
